MeatEater Time Machine Buffalo Jump Hoody

MeatEater Time Machine Buffalo Jump Hoody

For 2026, we’re taking a trip through time to revisit the moments that shaped American outdoor culture and influenced the way we hunt, fish, explore, and connect with the land.

We’re calling it the MeatEater Time Machine. It’s a yearlong look back at the stories, people, and turning points that built the outdoor world we’re part of today.

4000 BCE to 1500 CE - The MeatEater Time Machine takes us to the buffalo jumps of the Great Plains, where hunters worked together to drive herds of buffalo off cliff edges in order to harvest the animals on a mass scale. Afterward, the hunters and their families camped nearby while they processed the meat and hides and celebrated a successful hunt. Want to learn more about how buffalo jumps worked and what they meant for the people who relied on them? Dive into the articles below. Want even more? Steven Rinella’s book, American Buffalo: In Search of a Lost Icon, includes a ton of archaeological and cultural information about buffalo jumps.
